Ross Hillier won the Short Documentary category at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2020 for My Father The Mover, directed by Julia Jansch — one of the most prestigious accolades available to a South African cinematographer working in international documentary film.

My aim is to make the camera an integral part of the story, using light, framing, and movement to create a narrative presence. I focus on the human element, seeking to convey authentic emotions and establish enriching collaboration with my teams. My ambition — as both a South African cinematographer and director — is to create immersive and deeply touching cinematic experiences that resonate long after the final frame.
